What to expect from a Behaviour Consultation

You can expect a clear, supportive process designed to understand your dog fully and guide you step-by-step towards lasting change.

Your behavioural support journey will usually follow these 3 steps:

Pre-Consultation Step

  • Complete forms/questionnaires
  • A vet check is always required before your consultation. Many dogs struggle because they are in pain, but are too stoical to let us know.
  • If your dog will benefit from the support of medication, collaborating with your vet is essential. Note, a behaviourist can not recommend or prescribe medication.

Consultation

  • The consultation is a 2-3 hour in-person appointment at your home.
  • A deeper dive into your dog’s history.
  • Observe body-language.
  • Offer immediate practical, welfare-led management strategies.
  • Teach any cues (commands) required.
  • Make a full assessment.
  • Write a full report (behaviour modification plan) and share it with you and your vet.

Ongoing Progress & Support

  • Together we monitor improvements.
  • We will adjust techniques if necessary to ensure progress is being made.
  • Denise, as a qualified Clinical Animal Behaviourist, will continue to collaborate with your vet where needed.
  • Provide follow-up support sessions via Zoom/Teams (30 mins per week).

Behavioural change takes time, patience, and consistency, but every step forward will strengthen the bond between you and your dog – and ultimately lead to a calmer, happier life for both of you.
